I believe each of us has an innate and primary psychological need to be understood by others. Therefore, I strive to fully understand each client's individual perspective and unique life experience. I will not generalize your situation or focus on a diagnosis or label. I respect the dignity and worth of the individual, value self-determination, and don't view clients as unwell or ill. Rather, I view my clinical work as assisting individuals in seeking greater fulfillment and peace in their lives and believe all humans have the ability to tap into core health and a dimension of awareness that allows for greater equanimity, resilience, and creativity. We know through research studying interpersonal relationships, healing from loss/trauma, and researching studying the efficacy of psychotherapy that CARING in relationships promotes healing and growth. I was born and raised in Dubuque, IA and have lived in four states. I lived in Chicago for 2 years after graduating from University of Iowa. After living in a Chicago, I moved to Madison, WI. After graduating from University of Wisconsin-Madison, I moved to the Twin Cities and have practiced in this area since 2005. I love the down-to-earth lifestyle and people of the mid-west and can't imagine practicing anywhere else in the country. I have felt at home ever since I arrived in the Twin Cities and appreciate all that it offers. I feel very fortunate to practice in an area with such kind and generous people. I also greatly value the diversity of this area and the varied recreational, spiritual, social, and educational opportunities it offers.
